Crecer en un país donde no se vio la posibilidad de introducir al comercio productos de interés para su población negra. Ser de una época en donde muchas niñas negras no tuvimos acceso a muñecas que nos representaran, muñecas que nos ilusionaran, genera demasiadas interrogantes, que muchas veces no lo hablamos en voz alta.
To grow up in a country where the possibility to introduce in their commerce products of interest for its Black population, was unfeasable. Being from a time when many Black girls did not have access to dolls who ressemble us, dolls who inspired us, generating to many questions, that we do not dare to speak up.

Por la ausencia de muñecas negras, nuestra infancia no fue ni más triste ni menos disfrutada. Nuestra infancia estuvo llena de diversidad, mucho antes de que estuviera en boga, y fuese politícamente correcto. Jugabamos con todos los tonos de piel, representados en nuestra muñecas y nuestras compañeritas, y para el tono negro: tuvimos el propio.
For the absence of Black dolls, our childhood was not more sad nor less enjoyable. Our childhood was full of diversity, way before it was cool, and even before it was politically correct. We played among all skin tones, all represented on our dolls and play mates. For the Black tone: we had our own skin. |

Tuvimos muñecas favoritas y muy queridas: pelirrojas y rubias. Así como tuvimos compañeras de curso y amigas de toda una vida, muy lejos del negro.
Ahora, con la infancia lejana, y otra perspectiva de la vida: pienso en las muñecas, que tantas niñas solo quieren tener el tiempo y el espacio para disfrutar de una, cualquiera que sea. Cualquier muñeca es una fortuna.

En ocasión de la Copa del Mundo, Univisión reporta sobre los futbolistas más guapos y sexies del mundial, e ironicamente de todos los jugadores, no figura ni un sólo negro.
Now, during the Soccer World Cup season; UNivision covers the list of the " world sexiest soccer players" according to the Latinas, and sadly among all the players, no Blacks were to be found. Keep in mind that this year's World Cup in been played in South Africa.
Yo rindo tributo a todas las niñas negras que jugaron buscando y esperando muñecas negras. A todas las niñas, tejo pensando en todas las niñas que aún queremos más muñecas negras con sus muñecos: en los canales, en los certamenes, en las lista de bellas y hermosas alrededor del mundo.
